At Companion Animal Hospital, we host an emergency pet clinic in Mount Prospect, IL where our emergency veterinarians and support staff are equipped and trained to act quickly when admitting and treating emergency cases during regular business hours. Many of us are pet parents, too, and we know how stressful these situations can be.

WARNING SIGNS OF A PET EMERGENCY

We believe that every pet parent should be able to recognize if their companion is having an emergency. Common warning signs include:

• Seizures
• Difficulty breathing/labored breathing
• Rapid/irregular heart beat
• Heavy bleeding
• Chronic vomiting/diarrhea
• Limping/lameness
• Sleeping all the time
• Unable to walk or stand
• Bite injuries (bite wounds can result in serious internal damage that isn’t always obvious on the surface)
• Choking/gagging
• Foaming at the mouth
• Pale gums
• Abnormally high body temperature
• Collapse
• Loss of consciousness
• Vocalizing/whimpering constantly
• Unable to urinate
• Ate something poisonous/toxic
• Blood in vomit or stool
